Stupid holidays are throwing off my mojo here. I’m a creature of habit, once things go different then I lose my mind
. We go back to work next week so hopefully the schedule will go back to work as well. I was planning a 3mi today but did the calisthenic portion first which always throws things off. The .9mi vs going 2 “whole” miles was just where I ended up and wasn’t a planned or thought out anything….it’s just how it goes. More than anything right now I’m just trying to stay mildly active and not use the holidays as an excuse for turning into a giant turd. Diet may have crashed and training is sketchy….but the wagon is still in sight.
I received my weighted vest today…an early birthday present you could say. My vest is 40lbs…body armor is 40lbs…what a coincidence! Who would have thought? It’s almost like practicing like you play. Hmmmm.

. My knee has been giving me some serious “owie” over the past couple of days. When I stretch I do OK. When I don’t stretch I get some nice pain. In theory you’d think I’d be smart enough to make time to stretch. I’m practice….yeah.

OK day. Took a little longer to get out the door than normal and it seems like everyone wants to be my friend and chat for some reason. Life is good. Decent session. My pullups are weak. I should have been a little more aggressive on the deadlifts. Some of the “Body Weight” exercises are a lot more dramatic for bigger people than little people.
IMO it’s a really fine line in between being really good\dedicated and being blinded by an unrealistic goal. When I say unrealistic, I’m not saying that the goal itself isn’t achievable, I’m saying that the feelings or sense of accomplishment\pleasure\happiness from achieving that goal aren’t realistic. It’s easy to set a goal and drive towards it, racing, shoving little kids out of the way…push, push, push. You get it…you make it. What do you have? Nothing. You killed yourself and perhaps you have an extra ab or some extra wheels on the bar. Your satisfaction lasts about 2 seconds.
In my little perfect world. Setting goals is massively important. You HAVE to have a destination in mind if you’re going to go on a journey. The journey is the “critical” part of the whole scheme though. Making forward progress. Pushing through. Challenging yourself and overcoming.
“What’s the difference?” you ask. Good question. The difference is the satisfaction isn’t coming from the final result. The satisfaction comes from putting one foot in front of the other every day walking that journey knowing that the “goal” is always moving and always changing.

I was at the US gym this morning so the weights were a little wonky. I normally lift in kilograms and don’t like doing math first thing in the morning so went a little conservative. It felt good to be in there just doing my thing with no pressure. Felt nice\fresh\strong. The diet is in the pooper. Portion control is good. Choices not so much. W\ the mom-in-law here motivation to be ready for this week sort of died. Should be back on the wagon soon.

it was cold…26 degrees or something like that. i should have worn pants (not shorty shorts). No real complaints. I was rested and carbed. Real happy with the pushups and situps. Weighed in at 157, so 13lbs heavier than last year. Might have been able to dress more appropriately\paced a little better\pushed a little harder at the end to squeeze in some extra seconds, but not enough to get beat up over. There’s no way I’d get the 9:36, so it really doesn’t matter.
Now that, that’s out of the way I’ll put a little more effort into the 3mile and loosen the diet to the “E” plan. The days will start getting longer and life will be normal again. The “freezing your balls off” thing is getting old.
