OK, so I’m back again. Life is only insane about 95% of the time now. Work is going…we’ve got all of our furnature and things are about what you’d expect. One little interesting factoid I have is that on thursday I’m going to be a “spinning instructor”. You heard it here first folks.
For the record, I hate spinning. I was voluntold to do it and I will and do a fantastic job. In the back of my mind I’m going to be giving the stink eye to all of those surrounding me. The bottom line of fitness for me is that it’s a destination, not a journey. You have to strive to get better…and better…and better. That’s what it is. That’s what it’s for. It’s not fun. It’s typically not easy. You do it because some little demon in the back of your mind will mock you if you don’t.
Now, spinning is what I like to call a recreation fitness activity. You’re not really trying to accomplish anything other than being occupied for 50minutes. You’re not trying to get better at riding a bike that doesn’t move. You’re not trying to lose weight…unless you’re a dumb ass who can’t figure out that it’d be WAY easier to just eat less. You’re not trying to “get in shape”…unless you don’t get that riding a bike to no where is a fairly specific activity that won’t carry over to anything else in the world. You’re entertaining yourself.
You could be using that time to take a walk with your kids. Hell, you could be eating jello on the sofa watching reruns of Buffy. But you decided to go to a class to get all sweaty. All in the name of getting a “good workout”. Not defining what a bad workout is…or what makes this one good outside of being sweaty. The whole damn thing defies logic. It’s evil I tell you.
Nice to see you back, Tony. Remember, you’re only the “instructor”. You don’t actually have to be all gung-ho and actually spin for 50 minutes. Only need to instruct the masochists when to go faster.

Do you think spinning helps people who actually ride bikes ride any better?
Welcome back, man.
